I've been looking at the possibility of using a 5.7 with a carb to eliminate a ton of fuel delivery issues and cost. The MSD 6-hemi control box is only good up to 08 and finding a low mileage motor 08 or older is very hard to do lots of 09 and newer any way around this on the 09 and newer staying around the same cost of the MSD 6-hemi controller

It's a complicated venture, but it can be done.

The ignition can be controlled by the FAST XIM unit (according to FastManEFI).

VVT can be locked out by using Comp Cams lockouts.

A 6.1 style port opening is required on the intake manifold. The 6.1 shares the same port opening shape as the 5.7 Eagle. There are really only practical intakes available in my opinion. First is the ModMan by Indy. It will not make the best power overall but it should fit under your hood. Second is the Ritter/Muscle Motors Drag Pack style intake. It will make the best power throughout the rpm range but it is quite tall so it will not clear a stock hood.

Cam selection for this engine is in its infancy but there are several available and lots of vendors that can do custom grinds. Modern Muscle(site sponsor) comes to mind.

6.1 style headers must be used as well due to port openings being the same shape.

The rest is just standard hemi swap stuff like swapping out the mds lifters, etc.

HHP sells a 2" shorter version of that Ritter intake. Would like to see if it would clear an A-body hood. I bet with a thin 4150 throttle body it would but a carb might be iffy.

I don't think that's the answer he was looking for,You just have to use a 08 or older toner ring on the crank for the crank signal,as long as your doing a 5.7 carb swap,It's the toner ring that changed on the crank,Call MSD and verify.I believe the coils are the same it's only the crank toner ring that changed,You'll still use the cam sensor,MAP sensor input's and you should be good to go,When you order a aftermarket crank they will ask the number of teeth that you want on the toner ring so the crank sensor will read the input--Steve

That's good info, but did Mopar continue to use the same plugs on the injectors, coils and sensors? If so, swapping the tone ring would be the simplest.

Swifter is correct - toner ring is the issue on the late VVT 5.7

There may also be a need to swap the crank and cam sensor to the earlier type to match the MSD harness........this is a direct plug and play swap out

The Modman intake has a port fitting for the factory MAP sensor.
