Has anyone tried this combo? Jegs’ website says recommended wheel width is 6-8”. Any advice is appreciated.

Its doable but its pushing it, 7” would be ideal, 5.5” will make the tire balloon more, will actually increase the overall diameter.
Is it safe and will it look funny? If it’s safe I’ll buy them.

i cant tell you its safe, you have to make that judgement on your own. They will mount on the 5.5” wheels but the sidewall will be sticking out about 2” over the front and back wheel lip. It will put added stress on the sidewall but with them being biased tires they are a little more forgiving. I wouldnt if it were me, 6.5” is really the limit of a 9.5” wide tire Hoosier actually recommends a 8” wide wheel.

Those are not drag radials, they are basically rear drag slicks with slightly thicker sidewalls and a couple grooves, to make them D.o.t. legal.
It could be done. I'm assuming it's cause you have small pattern rallyes, and you don't want to buy 15x7 rallyes, ( or they are backorder till kingdom come).
Since those are one of only two performance/race tires in 14s that I found, I would give it a shot. But I think you would be happier with the other tire I found, M&H muscle car drag race tires. They are also bias ply but they have a longer lasting compound and real streetcar tread. They are roughly the same size, 235/60x14. MNH-MSS002 in summit catalog.
All in all, the better choice, in my opinion would be to get some aftermarket 15" rallyes and have your choice of hundreds of tires. They are made in 5 on 4.

oh no question they will mount on the 5.5” wheels but its not ideal, the 5.5” wheels will suck the sidewalls in which will increase the diameter and cause the tire to crown. Also since the tire will be more ballooned or crown more a very low tire pressure will have to be used to maintain a proper contact patch. Lower than youd probably want. i realize they arent radials, still puts added stress on the sidewall. The tire manufacturer lists a rim width range for a reason. I agree a lot more options in 15”
also have to remember, the 26x9.50-14 has a tread width of 8” and a section width of 10” so with a 5.5” wide wheel the sidewall will be out about 2-1/4” on each side from the wheel. Also with a wide tire on a really skinny wheel it wont be as stable, there will be more side to side movement of the wheel relative to the sidewall of the tires

They will be fine. If you look at the spec you will see it is 9.50-10" section width with an 8" tread. The 235 60 14 m&h pictured below is 7.5" tread , 9.8" section width on the stock 5.5" wheels the GTS wore since day 1. I have ran them as low a 9 psi without issue. If I run under 13 psi the tire starts to wad up. When these M and H wear out I will try a set of QTPs if the Dana isn't swapped in. The M and H have been good I just like to experiment.

The tires in question are on the rear of my 72 Duster. It is BBP. What I am trying to accomplish is to get some traction back there with a 3.91 gear. My older brother and I are planning to take my 71 and 72 Dusters to the Nationals in August, we haven’t been since we were kids and I’m setting my 72 up for him to race. With that said it’s not a race car it has a mild 71 360 with under 400 HP but I am trying to be as cost conscious as possible because my 71 has a long way to go and a short time to get there to be ready by August 11. My neighbor let me borrow an all out slick for it but then I’ll have to add long wheel studs and a loop to run them. Here is a picture of the car with the 28” drag slick. Looks like my best bet is to just buy 15” wheels for the rear.

Will it be ok? Yes, but why not get the correct wheel to make it work correctly?
Minimum, you want the wheel width to be equal to the tread width. Drag radials like a wide wheel, as close as you can get to the section width.
I run a 13.1 section width tire on a 11.25" wheel.
One thing to mention, is if you run a wheel wider than the measuring wheel the company used, the section width of the tire will increase.

If you can borrow the slicks, a set of long studs and a loop is cheaper than $500 worth of occasional use tires. (I wouldn't use either of the above mentioned tires on a daily driver).
And new studs and a driveshaft loop are a good idea anyway.

Ok, if you're planning on driving to the Nats on these tires I'd say, don't do it!
Now if you're just gonna put them on at the track and run low air pressure, I'd be fine with that.
Like others have said, running these at 25 psi or more on the street will cause very uneven wear and poor handling too. Years ago I ran some M&H L60x15s on 7" wheels and they of course wore out in the center.

Both cars will be trailered. I have made my mind up to but some 15x8” wheels. Thank you to everyone for their opinion and info.

If you want the contact patch of the tire to lay flat on the road you need a rim that's as wide as the tire tread width.
Sure you can run them on a 5.5" width rim, people do it all of the time, but that's not correct, or totally safe in my opinion.
I for sure wouldn't do it, but it's your car and your safety at stake. Do as you wish.
