I've had this small block intake laying around for a few years now, never looked to closely at it. I just threw it in the shed. It's a 2bbl. intake, but it is a single plane. the casting number is 3614031-1. Does anyone know what a single plane 2 bbl. intake was used on or in? Does anyone know if they perform any better than the typical 2 plane intake? Any help with this would be appreciated.

i haven't looked at the casting number, but does it look like this?

That's the intake for a 67-71 318

a single plane 2bbl intake isnt stock on any car. probally a mopar race piece. IF ITS FORM AN EARLY 273 IT WONT BOLT TO ANY OTHER HEADS.

Is this a good intake worth using? I've never really seen one until this one, I'm used to the 2 plane intakes. Thanks for the quick responses too guys.

According to Larry Shepard, the first 273's had single plane 2bbl manifolds. He states that, on page 176 of his book, "How to Hot Rod Small Block Mopar Engines."

You can check it out at the link, above. First paragraph, under "HISTORY" in the left-hand column.

Well, I read it, but It's a little confusing. It doesn't say whether the early 273's sported single plane 2 bbl carb or single plane 4 bbl carb.

they would have been 2bbl carb.i believe the 4bbl option was introduce later with increased compression, and a more aggressive solid lifter cam.called"commando 273"

My 67 273 has the same style single plane 2 bbl intake. It is essentially the same as the factory 273 single plane 4 bbl intake with a different section where the carb bolts on.

that's definitely the stock 70 318 2-bbl intake...single plane and all. Check out the patina on the valve covers, heads, and block. That engine was never apart!
