3 bolt timing gear set recommendations?

Putting a relatively mild 383 together and have a solid lifter cam that's getting installed. What recommendations do you guys have for a good 3 bolt timing gear/ chain set? It'll be street driven (heavy foot)and occasionally taken to the strip. Thanks in advance.

I’ve used Cloyes back in the day, the quality in my opinion has gone downhill. I’m running a Howards double, it’s outsourced from another company. The quality seems much better than a Cloyes.

May as well go with the JP/Rollmaster if you're going to spend that much. That's the best on the market next to a quality gear drive.

Follow this link to Summit. They show all the timing sets that are made in USA. Cloyes is not among them. They have been outsourcing to China for a while now. Rollmaster is not among them either, but they are a high quality Australian made part.

For a good one, yes. I sure wouldn't pay that for a Cloyes, but again, I don't use Cloyes anymore.

One thing to consider is weight. The lighter the reciprocating weight the more torque the engine puts out at the back of the crank on acceleration. Grumpy used to run a silent chain aluminum top gear with the plastic teeth and throw them out every other weekend.

There are many strong light weight sprockets and chains out there that are all mentioned above. Cloyes true roller and roll master are what I run. We bought a Belt drive for the new engine.

Which one? I believe they make a couple versions. I could be wrong, but I believe the "gold" version has tougher gears (maybe nitrided?) I always spring for that one.

One thing is The balance. If you are running a manual pump with a eccentric bolted to the top sprocket . What we have noticed is some are made for that eccentric And have been weighted for it. The one in the first picture is neutral balance should not have one but does. The second picture should have one and is unbalanced without one on there. Just an FYI.
