Hello all!

I have a 1972 Duster currently powered with a /6 and 904.

I have recently replaced the stock 7.25 rear with an 8.25 with 3.21 suregrip gears.

I am planning a motor and tranny swap. I want to install a 1973 318 bored 40 over with weiand intake and an Edelbrock #1406 600 cfm carb.
I also want to switch from the 727 to the 3 speed manual synchromesh
tranny.

Can I use the small block 4 speed bell housing on the 3 speed tranny?
Will I need to change the bearing retainer or anything else on tranny or motor?

I want this for street use with some pep when wanted. Maybe a step or 2
above stock.
What would be my best combo as far as clutches, flywheels, etc?

MOPAR or NOCAR!

Because that is what I want and it would be correct for this car.

How do I get an answer to my question. Yes I know very little about
computers and the terminology.

someone correct me if Im wrong but I believe all aluminum bell housings are doubled drilled, one set for 4 speed another for 3 speed ?

So I guess your AdamR?

Well I think I am figuring out how to use this site.

The research that I have done on this subject has given me 2 possibilities.
1. Depends on the year of the bellhousing.
2. depends on the flywheel or clutch, can't remember which.

Thats me, LOL

Im not 100% sure, Im sure someone else will be able to help. I believe the early cast iron bell housins are single bolt pattern so they will only work for one or the other but that later aluminum bell housings are double drilled.

Ok! Thanks for the advice and help!

I am hoping some one could comment on my other questions in regards to the combination that I am looking to install. the combo is listed on my first post at the top of this page. I'm going to need to get a clutch and flywheel setup. I want this for street use but would like some performance and durability as well. Yes, my cake and eat it to!

This is for my dad, he's almost 70 and loves his Duster but wants a little more power and likes the idea of the synchro 3 speed. God Bless Him!

Thanks for any suggestions to get an older rocker rollin!
