30-day countdown to 12's

-
25 days and counting... to run 12's....
This day I can post now..... nothing done on the truck :)

Be your own judge... LOL

Oh, no good nightmare, I have to watch one of his videos to see what the bumper looks like... Aye yi-yi...
So I turned down my volume and scroll to the end, so I can see the bumper and you show the front of the new bumper and the side front of the old bumper... I'd like to see the side view of the new bumper... So we can get a really round view of what it looks like on the truck and stand back a little bit... good nightmare...
Or better yet a couple pictures instead of a self promoting video....
My prediction... It's going to rain at the end of the season.... Just like it always does, and you won't be able to go, and everybody's going to be disappointed....
Good morning 318hasvalvesthatfly...

I like it from the top view. But as soon as you pan down and show a low shot I start to dislike the look. I agree some kind of body work, a valance or something similar, is necessary to complete the overall look. Maybe even getting the truck lower would help. But I think for your goals it’s a win. 18 pounds of the front is a big chunk.

Now, with the loop on and the bumper project finished, I have to look ahead at my limited time and decide where I'm going next. I'm pretty sure it will be under the hood.

What does that truck weigh, 4-4500lbs? You’re gonna need about 450hp to tickle the 12s in the 1/4 Id think. Maybe an extra 25hp just to overcome the lack of any aerodynamics in that body style.

I think you need to weigh it.
Ok, I went back and looked at the weight we started at. No spare or jack, 1/4 tank of gas it weighed 3760 lbs. Then, we went to manual brakes, manual steering, took off the front bumperetts, took out the radio/speaker and antenna, took out the heater core box/hoses, took off the back bumper and replaced it with a 1x6, replaced the large mirrors to a small single mirror on the drivers door, removed floor mating, headers and exhaust vs factory manifolds/exhaust, went to an aluminum intake manifold, extra wiring was eliminated. We did add weight by going to the 8.75 rear end and traction bars. I had a tally of the weights on everything I removed, but my mind didn't hang on to all the numbers... LOL, but it came to about 3550 at one point then back up to about 3600
  • But, none of this really stands out or shows when you see the truck. STill looks like a typical farm truck, including the tailgate, wheels and hubcaps and bench seat

While I didn’t actually touch the truck, I went and dug around and found my Eddie airgap for the magnum. The receipt was still on the box, and I purchased this intake in 2015 for just under $300. Now, at Summit, over $500. Anyways, I’m thinking that I may try this in place of the Speedmaster intake, and although my engine is very mild, might there be a difference??? And also, I might throw my brawler on top of the Eddie intake.

Do that!!!

4779, one of my all-time favorite carbs. I may just go through it as well. My brawler is a 750 double pumper as well.
Oh, yea the brawler won’t be any better than that if it’s dialed in. Im a big fan as well and that’s exactly what’s on my truck. But I do believe there’s a handful of HPs in the manifold swap.

Yaaaatta Biyaaaabi !!!! ufffff... huh?? I just got up off the floor.... guess I fainted! I just priced the 4779 classic manual choke at Summit, like I have on the truck. 849.95 BUCKS !!!!! No WAY !!! So I go to the actual Holley site, same price! If I didn't already have this stuff, I'm afraid I'd never own it at these prices

Sorry guys, but I'm still trying to digest this. 505 bucks for my intake, and 850 bucks for the carb. Total, 1355.00 !!! Good gravy, I don't have that much in my engine/tranny combined !!!

Hard to see a carb priced at $850. Goodness. Looking forward to the results as you keep pressing for the goal!

I could see an AED, or something of that sort. But I always saw the 4779 as the common double pumper carb... goodness!

I bought a few of em at spring fling last year. I payed no more than $150 each. Shhhh don’t tell anyone.

So 10 years ago I bought my new air gap for 289.00 (is what I'm pretty sure it was). If you give 3% growth for 10 years (usually the average till recent years), that will price it at 375.00 on a sale today. However, we are looking at a 7.5% inflation growth over a 10 year period to get to 505.00. I can Guarantee you I'm not receiving 7.5% per year in income, and that would be just keeping up with inflation, and wouldn't be a raise at all. Just a cost of living raise.

Ok, enough before this gets sent to N/P LOL.. I won't post anymore about it :)

Here it is getting woke up after a few years of nothing.... LOL

That's corporations reaching in our pockets, inflating prices 100-150% above inflation.
At those prices no wonder everyone is buying Speedmaster parts.
I have enough junk that I don't need to buy anything major or what use to be minor, like a carb or intake was a minor investment at one time.

what about ProForm carbs? not sure what they are priced at. and we wonder why people are not coming into this hobby. hopefully after they read your thread they will be encouraged to try and do it on pennies and not spend $$$.
Thanks!
