30-day countdown to 12's

what about ProForm carbs? not sure what they are priced at. and we wonder why people are not coming into this hobby. hopefully after they read your thread they will be encouraged to try and do it on pennies and not spend $$$.
Thanks!
Brawlers are along the same line, and owned by Holley. They are much cheaper in the price department vs the 4779.

Edelbrock AVS is cheaper (still expensive) and performs better my opinion. Down low it is a lot better than a Holley

Yaaaatta Biyaaaabi !!!! ufffff... huh?? I just got up off the floor.... guess I fainted! I just priced the 4779 classic manual choke at Summit, like I have on the truck. 849.95 BUCKS !!!!! No WAY !!! So I go to the actual Holley site, same price! If I didn't already have this stuff, I'm afraid I'd never own it at these prices

This '80 D150 is looking more and more like a 2-nickel build. When (not if.. lol) this combo goes into the 12's in a full size long bed truck, it's going to be done so cheaply that it's almost impossible to match in just 5 years. No deals from "friends or relatives" either. All shopped from strangers like anyone could do.

I’ve been faithfully going to the Mopar Nationals at National Trail most years for about 40. I always allowed myself one or two small things toward my car in storage waiting for retirement. It kept me interested and it’s paying off now. Somebody said “having to wait for an Air Gap.” I said “got one put up.” I’ve got an original AVS, and a kit for it. Now I’ve been doing a little at a time for a couple of years, with a little help from my FABO friends. I think I will be driving it to the Nationals in 2026; but have really enjoyed working with my hands.

I agree combo dependent, but I have had both carbs in a combo that's a little hotter than your truck and I prefer the AVS 2.
I actually took a brand new AVS2 650 and a new 750 brawler to the track and did an "out of the box" comparison right at the track. Both ran the same numbers you might say. That was on a very mild 360 in my duster

You may find that with a tighter converter, loading it more could help it launch. Just off idle and it gets a big run on the converter and might flash higher. I’m currently launching at lower rpm trying to do just that. I can use a bit more flash 3500 rpm now with it loaded pretty good. So I have been launching just off idle to get a run on it. I don’t want to change the converter because at some point I will be making more power. Load it and roll in, let the loading move the car and then roll in. ALMOST wait for the nose to just start to drop. Hard to describe.

23 days and counting… To run 12’s
I found 45 minutes today, and I didn’t waste it. I will finish scraping at the next available time.

With certainly some more test and tune in, I could get things more precise on the launch and even shift points. Shoot, I even gotta work on where it works the best in timing.

I will probably do a little side by side comparison of the SM vs Eddy air gaps in a video. I can't bench flow them or the likes, but I can at least talk about what's behold'n to the eyeball.

Sorry guys, but I'm still trying to digest this. 505 bucks for my intake, and 850 bucks for the carb. Total, 1355.00 !!! Good gravy, I don't have that much in my engine/tranny combined !!!

This is exactly why I have a shelf of carbs. Find one cheap, pick it up and squirrel it away. I tell everyone if I wreck my car I’m done. Couldn’t afford another build.

Try that same carb on Amazon, Canadian dollars, at $1379.41, BEFORE taxes and shipping.

yeah, I'm done giving away my spare parts. Used to be if somebody needed something, I'd say "here, try this". That seemed to be a mostly one-way street and too expensive to buy new so... But this truck shows that guys n gals can still play on the very cheap.

While I didn’t actually touch the truck, I went and dug around and found my Eddie airgap for the magnum. The receipt was still on the box, and I purchased this intake in 2015 for just under $300. Now, at Summit, over $500. Anyways, I’m thinking that I may try this in place of the Speedmaster intake, and although my engine is very mild, might there be a difference??? And also, I might throw my brawler on top of the Eddie intake.

How will you know if the intake is better if you change the carburetor too?

I’ve got enough cars, we can swap all your junk on to/in to another shell. You’ll be rollin again in no time. But don’t wreck your car. Ever.

I won’t. Fact is I have one more shot to do this this year. So I’m looking at the truck and the simple things that are possible to change that may offer an increase. If I guess wrong, I won’t hit 12s this year lol
