Im thinking of picking up a set of late 80's 302 heads. Ive seen that there are Mexican and US heads. What is the difference and what is the easiest way to tell the difference if I head to the local junk yard to pull a pair. Also what vehicles should I be looking for to pull them from? Thanks everyone!

You're on the right track. Late 80's Diplomats and 5th Avenue had them. The part number ends in "302" . Easiest way is to look at the combustion chamber shape first. it is a closed chamber design shaped like a heart. tmm

5th avenue's...........86-89.
Dodge D150's........86-91.
Ramcharger's.....86-91.
B100/150's.......86-91.

are you following along? Obviously, RWD Chrysler products between
86-91.

These engines are BLACK.

If your really sly, the best engine to find is a 88-91 Roller Cam 360 with the 308' cylinder heads.

What do those come on, you ask?

88-91 W series trucks
88-91 D250
88-91 4x4 Ramchargers
*(notice) nothing in the Car Line

Good Luck.

Here is a photo, lower left you can see the part number.
From a 85 Diplomat 318 2 barrel.regular 318 heads do not have the heart shape and are open chamber.

Thanks for the pic! So is there a difference in the heads by where they are made? Supposedly, this is a good upgrade for my stock engine correct? Oh I was also informed to installed bigger valves into these heads. Or is it they come with the bigger valves?

What is the benefit of this head over the 302 head?

well....ALL 318's come from the factory with 1.78" intake valves, and 1.50" exhaust valves.

360's on the other hand, come with 1.88" intake valves, and 1.60" exhaust valves.

360 cylinder heads also have more "port volume"....in the intake port.

302' casting 318 heads are closed chamber, and have heart shaped chambers.....and are known as Swirl Port heads.
308' casting 360 heads are not closed chamber, and do not have heart shaped chambers....they are "supposedly" swirl port like the 302's but dont get me to Lying.

might sound like negligable difference.....but you asked.

But it's pretty easy for the machine shop to grind the seats to accept the larger valves in the #302 heads and the teens" like it. tmm

Hey guys, I know someone that has a Diplomat. I have to get a hold of him to find out the year, but I do know its a V8 car. So I believe its either a 318 or 360. Could this car possibly have the heads that Im looking for?
