I bought a 318 for a project I am working on. The engine appeared to be all original, but now I'm not quite sure. The casting numbers on the engine say its a 1971. Is was told it was out of a camper. The transmission was attached and its definitely a camper transmission. My dad pulled the heads on the engine today and from what I can tell the casting numbers are from a 1960's 273ci truck engine. We measured the valves and they measure 1.88 and not 1.78 though.

Here is the casting numbers, and all other numbers I can find off of the heads. Any information you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!

2658234 are late '66 273 heads...nothing about being truck heads. Don't think they had special truck heads. Someone may have replaced the original '71 318 heads with these. After all, its been 40+ years both have been around.

and thats what I have read as well, but they should have 1.78 valves, and they measured 1.88,

so I guess my next question would be is there any downside to using these heads on a 318 build? I also have 360 heads I could use, but from what I hear they lower compression? Also the fact that they are stamped AAWJ does that mean they are J heads or do all J heads have J stamped between the plug holes?
