I've got a 66 barracuda with a motor from an 85 5th avenue in it and last night when i was trying to put the belts and hoses on it i noticed that with the power steering and the ac removed there wasn't a way to put a belt on just the alt fan and balancer. The balancer pulley is the 4 pulley variety and the fan has a 2 rib as well as the alt. However the alt is lined up with the rear pulleys on the crank and the fan is on the front. Do i need to find a different fan pulley or do i have something lined up wrong?

These set ups can be really tricky. You need a completely matched set of pulleys and brackets, pumps, and compressor to make all this stuff work. My suggestion is to decide what you want on the motor, ie ps, ac, etc and then go from there. Finding a complete set installed sitting on an engine in the bone yard is your best bet, depending on what you want/need. Dont forget to look at pickup and vans if you are short on passenger cars to examine. There are some outfits making bracket and pulley reproductions, Off hand I dont recall their names, maybe someone else can get that for you.

Ideally what you need is an early 70's type pulley set up for what you are after. You'll need the crank pulley, water pump pulley and correct alternator bracket for the stuff to match up right, one of the slots on the altenator wont be used, probably the rear most will work. Beware though - if the car overheats, check the size and number of blades on the water pump impeller. You'll want a non ac water pump, Not an ac water pump. The pulleys on the two are different sized, ac water pump pulleys are smaller and use a smaller impeller, non ac set ups use a larger pulley and larger impeller.

What you have there is a set that is missing the AC compressor, altenator, crank (2 belts), and the ps pump, fan crank circuit (1 belt), and in this case the extra slot on the water pump and crank is for an air pump which was used on 5th avenues.

There is a different fan pully that will get you down to one belt. The alt dont really need 2 when there's no a/c.
