I have 323 gears in back of my 340 4speed dart I am running about 400 hp and want to go to the street drags at the track this summer can i get some good times using my first 3 gears ?

I ran 9.80's in the 1/8 up in Vegas with my stock 340 4 speed Dart. 3.23 but only 235/60/14's on the back. Think there a little under 25 inches tall.

Think it had more in it but I ran out of passes. I would think you should be able to run at least high 8's depending on tire height and traction.

I will be running on a new set of Hoosiers 275 quick times and about 100 hp over sock im shooten for 8 flat what do you all think?

sounds like a strong motor, you will have a pretty tall tire son it may be a little sluggish, if you want the best time possible i would prob go with a 391 or 410 and still stay streetable, dont think 355 would be enough difference for the money, but if you like the give you have would stay with a shorter tire and run what you brung and be happy, good luck:D

My 69 barracuda has a 400fwhp 440.
I run a 28" tall tyre with 3.73 rear gear and have turned a best of 7.6 in the 1/8th.
I guess that's sort of a benchmark to aim for.

I just wounderd if I can get through the traps with out shifting into 4th

The difference between 1/4 and 1/8 is 20mph.
Do you know what mph you do in the 1/4?
If so then subtract 20mph.
I would expect (depending on variables)you would turn somewhere between abt 84 to 90mph in the 1/8.
Will your car do 84-90 in 3rd gear?
This should be enough info to answer your question.

You will probably not wind 3rd out. 90 in the 1/8 is a lot better than a flat 8. sounds like an 8.40 car to me. some 26 x 10.5 et drags would help

If you plan on seeing the track a bunch over the summertime,I,d switch to some 3.91,s.Just run a taller 15 inch tire on back for street use.JMO.With the 3.23,s you,ll just be starting to go in 3rd.

Mate, was only going by the 400hp info provided by the OP and comparing it to mine.
Mine has 400hp and I've turned 7.6@90 in the 1/8.
Most cars don't work as well as mine so that's why I gave the 84mph number which should be good for around an 8.1.
If your 8.4 prediction is more correct then that would only be around 80-82mph in the 1/8 assuming he can get bite.

At the end of the day it's all just numbers and none of us are necessarily wrong:thumbup:

Like your post says,at 90 youre running a mid 7. With his gears his 60 and 330 will suffer leading me to a mid 8
