Anybody have any input on the Howard’s big momma rattler (hydraulic flat tappet)? They recommended it to me for my 340

specs on the 340?
expectations?
how do you plan on using it?
how do you drive?
2950 lb car
4.30 rear gear
4 speed manual
Bored .030”
Edelbrock aluminum heads
Dual plane rpm intake
750 double pumper
Long tube headers

I want a rowdy street car that I could take on the strip if I wanna play around a time or two. I’m okay with it if it’s almost too rowdy for the street

If you’re intent on running a HFT cam, that’s probably as good a choice as any.

These days, whether or not its actually available can be a part of deciding what to use.

That is a very true and very sad reality.

in my mind, this is saying solid roller. and i don't think a 750 is gonna cut it, probably want an 850 up top

if this was how frisky i was feelin' i'd be on the phone with ken at oregon or racer brown or somebody to grind me something. cam wise, everything is a compromise and with an off the shelf grind you're making more compromises or compromises in areas that you don't necessarily need to or want to.

the big momma is a little aggressive, but i don't think it's really that much more rowdy than an old MP 292 piece. it'll be fun though if you have the compression to support it.

I've never ran one though I've run a few cams that are very similar. I think it would be a good rowdy Street grind and it wouldn't take a ridiculous high spring pressure to controlled valves similar to the 484 purple cam.

I run the 292 cam in my dart sport and it runs pretty good. Wish mopar still had the purple cams readily available.

it's funny, everybody says that... and then i put one up for sale and all i get is crickets.

everybody says how great they are, and had one back in the day, best thing since canned bread but noooobody wants to drop some coin for 'em.

Aww man I somehow feel like the throttle response is right there.. you just touch the gas and its "blap"

Mancini had a few of the popular ones re-popped.

Edit- looks like they only show the 474 cam for the SB.
There are 5 options for the BB.

Oregon cam reginds some patterns that are clones of the purple shafts I'm pretty sure.

246/250 @ .050 on a 108 with .648 lift solid roller in my 408 .
4sp and 3.55s.
Rowdy and it will even tow !

@0.050, .488/.480 lift, 235/243 duration, 103 centerline

10.5:1 compression
The 103 C/L is opening the intake valve quite early. Do you have the Intake Closing angle for that cam? - Degrees after bottom dead centre.
