How can a person tell by looking at the harmonic balancer whether a 340 has a cast or forged crankshaft? 68 Dart - 72 engine. I was talking to a guy at a show one day, and when I told him the engine was a 72, he said "Yeah, I can tell it's a forged crank". I did not think to ask him how he knew.
 
the harmonic balancer on a 340 with a cast crank......has For Use with a 340 Cast Crank Only stamped right on the front of the balancer....It is in english.....
 
..............The writing is on the ecentric weight....u wont be able to see the wrighting but u will see the extra weight...kim.......
