From what years they cast the 340, i know they started in 1967 but when did they stopped production? It's not 1973, i heard of 1976 but then again is that info correct...

I'm only aware of 340's in production cars between 68 and 73.....

Casting dates of 67 are entirely possible for 68 cars, but not sure of any after 73, but I'm willing to learn..:toothy10:

I remember reading a magazine, (mopar action i think) they were putting apart a 340 casted in 1976, they were saying it was probably a warranty replacement block...

They were put into cars until '73. They may have been made after that for the Direct Connection line or replacement useage's as a standard block as left over stock. But as said above by 3404spdvaliant. He is correct, no numbers.

They were used in boats for a couple of years after they stopped putting them in cars. The warranty replacement blocks have a casting date, but no assembly date.

I, personally, have only seen 340s cast from 67-73.

Here's what my book shows:

340-ci V-8 (available 1968-73)

Bore......................................................4.04 in.
Stroke...................................................3.31 in.
Compression ratio........................10.5:1(1968-71)
.................................................8.5:1(1972-73)
Carburetion.....................single CarterAVS 4-barrel
Horsepower...................275 @ 5000 rpm(1968-71)
...........................240 @ 4800 rpm (net, 1972-73)
Torque..................340 lb-ft @ 3200 rpm (1968-71)
......................290 lb-ft @3600 rpm (net, 1972-73)

So it looks like the factory 340 went from 68 models to 73 models so likely they could have had a casting date as early as 67 for the 68 model cars. The 360's became available in 74 and ran to 76. Now this is A body info so other body styles may be different.
While we on this here is some other interesting data.

Production #'s
1967 GTS............457
68 Hurst/Super stock Hemi......80
69 dart swinger 340......16,637
71 demon 340.......10,098
74 dart sport 360....3951
70 duster 340.........24,817
71 duster 340.......12,886
75 duster 360......1421
76 duster 360........N/A

Thought this would be of interest to some of you. Too bad we didn't buy a barn full of these things back when we were kids. When i was a kid i could have afforded these to a tune of one a month but women were sure occupying my mind at that time. Now when i'm older i only have about 40 of em so i guess i'll just trudge on through my boring old life. I guess life is tough everywhere though. Yall have a good day and vote (#,#,,,/#,,,,) tuesday.

That means that all leftover parts were sent to MOPAR replacement parts or to the Mopar Performance outlet. Blocks with #'s and casting #/s could have come into the market many ways such as a SS racer needing a new block.
The only difference that I know of in the 72 and 73 engines was that the 73's had the cast crank. Just my opinion but I still think the 340 is in a leauge of it's own.
Wish I had 3000 of them.

Well Smblk Since U Have 4, Give Me One And U'll Only Have 3, Might As Well Share The Wealth Now Voluntarily...lol

As Far As 340 Warranty Blks They Still Had Date Codes And Casting #'s, The ''no Numbers'' Were Refering To Serial Numbers Stamped In Boss In Blk Pass Side Right Above Oil Pan Rail, and The Dealers Were Supposed To Stamp Them, Not Many Dealers Did, Have Personally Seen 2 Of These Blks, If U Have One With No Casting Date Or Casting Numbers [ Extruded Numbers] Then They Have Either Been Taken Off Or Is Some Type Aftermarket Blk, All Factory Blks Have Casting And Date They Were Manufactured, This Came From A Dealer Who Dealt In Mopars For 35 Yrs, And All Blks Were To Be 'stamped' At Time Of Installation To That Specific Car Which Is Why The Last 6[i Believe] Digits Were To Match Vin Of That Car.

Some 72 340 engines were cast crank.

Some Mopars were equipped with 360s as early as 71.

340 is a an awesome engine, that's true!

Smallblock!
