I went to look at a car that the owner said had a 340 in it

how do I know if it is a 340 and not a 318?

car is a 70 Swinger H code

what do I look for?

Small blocks have the ID number on the front left side,just below the cylinder head. It will have a # with 318,340,360.
Look for casting #2780930-340
Usage:1968-1973 340
