OK guys and gals, I need some information on a 340 I've found. The casting number on the block is 2780930, and the casting date is 5-26-72. I need to know is it a cast crank, or steel crank engine. It is a standard bore, as there are no over bore numbers on the pistons. The current owner doesn't comprehend how to tell the difference between the cast and steel crank. All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill S.

see if he can read...and have him read the front of the balancer..where is says"For Cast Cranks 340 Only",,,,,

Does the flywheel or flexplate have weights on it?

May 72 casting date on a 340 should be a cast crank.

Sorry I wasn't clearer, it is just a short block with no balancer and no flex plate or converter. But as 6pak said, it's probably a cast crank motor because of the date. Thanks for all the info.
