I can't believe it's been 35 years since the Edmund Fitzgerald sank. I remember it well. The sinking touched a lot of people around here, the captain and some of the crew were from the Toledo area.
On a personal note, my grandma's cousin was married to the first captain of the Fitzgerald. He sailed on her for one year and then retired.

I remember the song by Gordon Lightfoot. somewhere around that time, a friend of mine bought an old KW? I think bus in the '40's. It was front engine, had a 5 speed and brownie 2 speed, and someone had put a 361/383 in there. I ended up trading him for it for not much, and back in the "trailer house" days, it was my workshop.

The first time we saw it, driving around behind the owner's barn, there it was painted grey. One of the guys said "Mygod, it's a ship." I said "yeah, a ship WRECK" and it became the "Edmond" on the spot.

I wonder if anyone really knows how many boats and ships have sunk in the lakes?

Here's a version with some narration that I like. Must have been horrible for the families left behind.
