Nope. Any block that is going to support a larger-than-factory stroke should be sonic tested by a competent person using good equipment. Only then is the truth known. Any references to "thicker" blocks are just urban myth do to production realities. Later ones tend to be more consistent - but there's no outward way to tell if they are consistently thick or consistently thin.
 
^ Exactly. I've sonic tested a bunch of them and there is no pattern to which ones are thick and thin. The best one I ever tested was already .030 over LOL. The later blocks have much less core shift, but doesn't mean they are thick walled.
