360 Magnum Rough Idle

Pretty decent, so I think. Spossed to have another x ray to follow up, tomorrow I think. I wanna say I feel short of breath if I lean down say to check the air in the tire .. so idk. Maybe I've just been sitting too long and lack of cardio/gym is catching up. I dont feel like I did when it collapsed...so thats good.

Another thing it could be is too much initial timing. Where do you have initial timing set? Is the vacuum advance on manifold vacuum? Nothing really wrong with that, but if the distributor isn't adjusted for it, it may be pulling in too much at idle. Put the light on it and see where it is.
 
Edel/Carter carbs will work with 10 psi of fuel pressure, but the float level needs to be re-adjusted.

What I see......& don't see in the pics.

It looks like the brake booster hose is connected to the front of the carb. That is where the PCV should connect....& I do not see the PCV plumbed into the engine.
PCV might of been omitted because it was not working properly with the low vacuum. The problem THAT that causes is: the PCV supplies about 3cfm of air at idle to the engine. To compensate for missing PCV air, the throttle blades need to be opened further....which messes up the whole idle & OFF IDLE cct....Symptoms include rough idle, idle mixture screws have poor/no control.
The fact that the engine runs 'good' above idle suggests cam/valve train are ok. So maybe just a tuning problem. If the low vacuum is because of the cam installed, then the timing at idle will need to be a LOT more than the factory 4-12* BTDC, maybe as much as 30*. This will also increase the vacuum.

I'm not mechanically gifted as many here. However, I've a 360 magnum. I had some rough idle problems. One of contributors to mine that's not been mentioned here might be the gas pump. I've had the same problem with mine - just adding this to the list in case it's something that's worth taking a look at.
 
Not sure of the compression,
Camshaft is a hydraulic cam regrind from oregon cam #1990
Rockers are 1.60 Ratio, 3/8" Stud
Edelbrock performer RPM heads
Edelbrock performer RPM airgap intake
Edelbrock avs2 650cfm carb
I did have a hard time degreeing the cam but I think i got it right, would a incorrect cam degree cause this issue?

What are the cam specs?
I don’t see 1990 on their lobe list..
Is 10-12” idle vacuum expected for the cam?

Besides everything mentioned. Since it is a 360 make sure you have the correct balancer, flywheel, flex plate etc.
it will shake more as you rev it up.

And it’s a magnum so it’s even more specialer (Is that a word?) than an LA 360.
 
Start with basics. I haven’t seen any compression numbers posted. Pull the wires one at a time and check for a cylinder not firing. An eight cylinder will hide a miss at higher speeds. Switch a plug wire out to confirm the cylinder missing. Check the plugs. Did the rings break in yet?
