360 Rough Idle

First post on this forum, so please go easy...

So we've had a 1964 1/2 Barracuda in the family since new, our cousin dropped in a 360 from a 70 dart after the engine quit. it already had had one rebuild. it has the push button torqueflite tranny. the 360 is a fresh rebuild.

The problem comes when we start it. It'll start and we have to keep the foot on the gas because it idles rough. possible Air leak? any ideas / ways to check? thank you guys

Like always... initial timing is set at?

I wouldn't have it less than 12* btdc.

Also check to make sure no fuel is dripping in the carb venturis. Should be none present at idle.

Make sure all the vacuum ports are blocked off.

I noticed in the picture that is has edelbrock heads. Might be dealing with a cammed up engine and that could be adding to the problem. Any specific info. about the engine internals could also be of help.

You need to follow crackedback's advice and get the timing to a reasonable place first and then work from there.
