so this weekend i installed a complete kit from milodon pan, pickup, main studs, and windage tray. i followed their instructions but they didn't have me put any lock tight on the main studs or bolts for the tray. they did say to use fine oil and check the threads. Is this correct?

also is there a torque wrench that doesn't use sockets? but an open wrench head? to torque down the mains properly.

I have the same kit on my car. I put two nuts on each stud, tightened them together very tightly and then torqued the bolt and watched for the nuts to spin. No lock tite and make sure you oil the threads going into the block. The nuts that lock the windage tray together will hold it there tightly.

Can't you just use "crows feet" with the torque wrench? Those are the things that look like wrench heads but have a hole for a socket wrench.

It might not be the most accurate (due to the wratchet hole being off-center), but I'm sure it's pretty close.

Torque=Force times distance, where distance is the length of the arm. So, to figure out an accurate torque, you'd have to create a ratio between the moment arm on the beam in the torque wrench and the arm on the beam of the torque wrench+the crows foot.

I forgot to say that when I torqued down the main lug nuts that I have a set of deepwell sockets that are extremely deep wells.

cool looks like i need to get some and another gasket kit...

did you guys use rtv on the gaskets?
can i use the normal fel-pro gaskets?
