so I bought this 4 speed trans and I’m wondering what it came out of.

1971 model- built on 10/30/70.

82nd 4 speed built that day..

71 Hamtramck car. 1 B is 71 Hamtramck. The 211939 is the vin of the car it came from.
Without the part number we can't tell. a 7 digit number starting with 341 or 351 will tell us. A photo or two would surely help.

If it has not been apart before &;

it has a single shifter mounting pad, it came from an A-body.

-or-

If it has dual mount shifter pads it came from an E-body but would also work in a B-body.

Dan, what would be a good rear gear ratio for this trans and 340 B-1 headed engine with a comp cam 550 lift 306 duration. Mostly street with some racing.
Close ratio 4-speed likes more gear in the back, but it also depends on the tire height and what RPM you can live with on the street. This is a good tool to play around with picking tire size and rear ratio.
Calculate GEAR, RPM, MPH, TIRE DIAMETER
