my question to you the masses is whether there is a benefit or hinderance to choosing a 400 over a 440 or a 440 over a 400. I'm planning on ordering a 440 source stroker kit in either case

I think you didn't read the OP's post. See above. Ordering a kit either way. The 400 block is proven to be stronger. Period.

it dont matter either or will be a kick *** engine. make sure it's put together right by a good machinist. that's what separates the men from the boys. balanced, clearanced, tight.

i think we are spoiled rotten. haha i'd take either engine in an instant.

To the OP: If you plan to just build it as is then the 440 has the advantage of additional cubes. If you are going to stroke it the 400 has the advantage.

The 400 will also give you a tad more room in the engine bay. It will also allow for TTI headers and raised port heads.

Go with what you have. No need to drop extra coin on another block if you have one already.
