400 Stroker Sounds Like a Bucket of Bolts

Hmm. So was that it?
Valve contact on the pistons.

The .075” rod side clearance doesn’t matter?
Chevy width big ends and mopar width journals..

Holy carp. Whoever built that engine ought to be ashamed of themselves, but obviously has no shame (and no pride, and no skill or talent, and perhaps a serious drug problem).
This Nick's Garage outfit here in the movie, by the accents I pinned 'em as being in Quebec. Did some web searching: Yep, they're in Laval, QC. Too bad they're not speaking the local Franglais: "Excusez-moi, pouvez-vous fixer mes spark plugs? Ils sont tous fuсké, lo!"

I thought he started it more times than he should have.
I agree, as time goes on he is becoming less and less careful and jumping off before analyzing the situations calmly. I suppose there is a time when any expert becomes more confident than is prudent and tends to throw caution into the wind.

Nick is no expert.
Was an excellent opportunity though for him to puff his frail chest, because not even nick would fk something up that bad. Lol
His buddy had to remind him of why a connecting rod is directional though.. basically letting the viewer know who the competent ones are in his business that keep it alive.

Now the bigger question mark is..
Who in the hell is given the task of building a big block stroker without some sort of track record of having that ability and knowledge... and more so success at it.

Dude used a crank designed for mopar rods and used narrowed Chevy rods.. still not the killer/time bomb.. but holy **** the pistons were all mixed up yet labeled somehow to be assigned correctly.

Nick rubs it in at least 4 or 8 times how his friend paid to have a motor built and its already coming back out as a time bomb upon startup.lol

I bet the guy probably asked Nick first but Nick's prices were too high, so he had his nephew or someone on his street who also was into hot rods build it for him. LOL even funnier is if he's lying and he built it himself LOL X10

I didn't notice it was a nick video and clicked on it... you're welcome for the accidental click Nick! Just say no!

Maybe the same guy that built this 340 with the pop ups in reversed did this engine. :)

Thiz the first/only vid of his I've seen. There a reason to avoid him? Is he another one like Uncle Tony?

Watching him dyno stuff is like a toddler with a hand gun. Just does some really stupid stuff. After watching a few there is only so much stupid I can take from guys like him and unc.

Note the part where Nick goes to pull the head off and the guy asked if he needs help and Nick's response is...
" no, it's not iron"

Lmfao.

Its on a stand, and he implies he would need help if it was an iron head.
Nicks arms look like you could pick a lock with them..or dry clothes on them.. maybe roast marshmallows even.... They would probably break and the head would drop onto his feet , severing them more than likely.
Nick should eat something, I mean.. holy Auschwitz...

Yeah, even though I'm gettin older now, I can still whoop off iron Chevy big block heads with no sweat.

He's been showing his age as of late (like many of us Boomers).
Yeah i do forget how old the guy is, and how old many have aged here even. I think the only reason anyone watches is to see mopar stuff, not necessarily his talent or to learn something new from him. What is he, 68 or 70..?
From the looks of him though.. he may not be around much longer.

From what I can find he's 69 this year.

that thar is an old skool hot rodder trick! everybody knows flipping the pistons is worth 25+ hp

I wonder if he uses a hoist to put Iron Hemi heads on? And then there's the subject of the yellow paint on the rods-maybe he has a special rod paint, that doesn't come off in oil and heat.

I have another good story pertaining to the title of this thread (Bucket of Bolts). Back in 75 when I just got out of high school, I had a classmate that had more money than brains. He had a 73 Gran Torino Sport with the 351C 4 barrel. He had the engine built with 12.5 pistons, the biggest hydraulic cam he could get, headers, Edelbrock Torker and a 780 Holley. This thing had the stock 3.00 rear gears and did nothing to the trans. Shortly after we graduated he knocked up his high school sweetheart. Mind you-1975-76 was when premium fuel went away and was replaced by gasohol-early name for ethanol blended fuel.
We were hanging out at our small town gas station. His girlfriend pulls in to get gas. The attendant said watch this-he filled her up with regular and tells her to get on it when she left. She pulls out on the street and hammers on it. It sounded like someone was throwing the big marbles into a metal 5 gallon bucket. I have never heard detonation that bad, it was horrible.
