have been keen on doing another BB for my ute for some time now. last one was a 383.

have read a lot of posts and articles by AndyF and the 451 or 470 takes my fancy. problem is trying to find a 400 block. i live on the other side of the planet in New Zealand and
have had no luck looking for a 400 block as yet. the 440 is easier to find so may end up going that way.
my ute is a A body and will fab my own fender well headers so making it fit is not so much an issue.
how much hp can one expect from a 440 with forged crank, good rods, pistons, 240 or 270 TF heads or eddy rpm's, good cam, intake, carb. already have a built 727 ready to go. this will be street/strip.
input and recommendations on parts etc would be great. cheers

440 with flat top pistons, 240 TF heads, TF intake and a good 850 carb should be 600 hp without too much trouble. A moderate flat tappet cam should get you there. Lots of cams to choose from but even an old school cam like the MP .557 or the MP .590 would make plenty of power with the TF heads. Or just call any of the cam folks and order something custom.

thanks Andy. was hoping to duplicate one of your 451 470 builds. any thoughts on what rods, pistons would make for a lighter reciprocating assembly.

440+.030...12.5:1 JE's, Eddy MCH heads around 323cfm, DC .590/312 purple sft, 2" hdrs, Victor intake, 950 then 1050 Dom in a 3200 Dart, ran 10.13@132 best = 600hp...as an example if it helps.
