Putting a 05 5.7 hemi in my 73 Duster. Stock motor with a tune. Built 727 shift kit. Gearing to be 3:55-3:91. 275-60-15 tires. Its only for street use and some play at the strip. What stall would be best ??

I'm putting together the same combo and I purchased a 4k stall for my (street car);) it may be a little high for your liking. I would say somewhere between 2k to 3k would be good. I'm sure some of the other members will chime in.

Glad to see you're getting back on your feet, Russ.
Please keep me in mind as I want to finish my car too.

Good Luck with the new project!

George

To give you an idea, the truck converter's from the factory for the hemi are 2800 stall.

FYI there is a .060" difference in depth between a 727 transmission and the RFE545 that comes behind the modern hemi.

Some 727 will bolt up just fine, while other require shim or spacer between the bell-housing and block. To bolt up a A833 you simply trim the end of the input shaft slightly. A number of companies sell a version of the spacer.

JD - would you know if the 6.1 needs the spacer to bolt to a 727?

Done at 5500?????? Where is that from????? I rev mine to 7,ooo all day long. One thing the programmers do is up the rev limit from the factory map.DId you look into a A518 with overdrive????? That would be a sweet option,You can run the overdrive off of vacuum or control it with a 12 volt switch from the dash.

Stock 5.7 redline is about 5700-5800 rpm, again, thats stock. Better valve springs, cam, heads, now your moving the redline up.

I went with a custom PTC... Mine bolted right in place with no spacer needed, don't waste ur money. Also just make sure u use the Mopar flex plate and u will be golden pony boy!

Well I'm using the MP plate, so I hope I won't need the shim.....:eek:ops:

You may, you may not, there seems to be enough manufacturing variances that some people can get away without the shim while others need it.

I would assemble the engine and transmission outside the car and see how they slide together. What happens is that as you snug up the bell-housing you push the converter up against the seal, possibly damaging the seal, converter, and the input shaft.
