Hi all, I've tried 2 different suppliers and I for the life of me cant get proper open barrel crimps on them. I end up having to solder and they dont fit into receptacle properly. The female receptacle crimps beautiful! It's like with the male receptacle the tabs that get crimped/folded are too thick to roll/form properly.
I need about 12 of them for 14-16 gauge.
I've tried Pico 1589-15 and Grote 84-2011
Pics of the factory ones are for reference, they fit in receptacle perfectly.

Have you tried eBay. Lots there.

Also are you using a quality crimper. American autowire crimp tool?

 
I have 2 Iwiss crimpers. Not great but they crimp the females good. The ratcheting one doesnt work well it does both crimps at once.. so-so. The one on the left does them individually and a great job on the females. Well enough to do most of my bulkhead connector. I dont want to buy/gamble off ebay unless they are known to work. I picked up the Grote ones today and thought they would work. Cant get them to roll/curl. I even got 2 wire female ones from Mouser. Crimped perfectly.

I thought these are 56? 3rd pic from top is factory, 56 isnt it? Whatever it's called I have bought from 2 suppliers and they wont crimp properly. Here is the housing and another piss poor crimp on a Grote 84-2011 connector.

I've only seen the male terminals sold as 56 series.
Those look like they are made from thicker material than some of the females shown above.
You'll have to experiment to figure out which crimp position and tool works for the heavier gage metal.
There's others here who know much more about crimping than me.
Maybe talk to Mr Heater Box, or Bill Evans, or the people at M&H.
 
It looks like there is not enough crush force on that terminal. Is that as far as the jaws close?
 
That was my opinion too, that the ones I bought appear to be too thick. The PICO is rated for 14-18?? I've never seen a connector rated for 3 wire sizes? So I ordered the Grote rated for 14-16. Same shitty result. 58s I've only ever seen are females? I think the 56 are males only?

This is why I have somehting like 5 open barrel crimpers now. The Astro with adjustble jaws, both 'Packard' copies made for American Wire, The one I needed for small terminals, and one similar to the MAC Toolmanmike mentioned.
 
Which ones (56) have you used with success?

Eventually I've made everything work that I've needed to.
 
there is a place that sells the proper chrysler packard terminals i will see if it is still in my bookmarks .
