/6 troubles! oh noo!!

ok so i just bought this 70 duster with a /6 auto in it. ran pretty good despite it needing a tune up and having a slight miss...

so i was driving to a buddies house to show it off and some douche cuts me off on the highway and slams on the brakes...i slam on mine and the car dies, i was able to fire it back up and go, but then a little ways more it dies again, and then again. so i coast into a parking lot. know i can get it to fire up but soon as it's shifted into gear it dies. Unless i two foot which i did just a little way to my friends, but my brakes aren't the greatest so do so.... any ideas on what this could be?? i need to get it back to my house so gotta figure something out

Does it have power brakes?( vacum leak) or Electrical connection.
maybe some dislodged debris in the fuel system.

Check engine grounds,maybe an old ground strap has had it,s last connection?

Agree with PettyBlue. Check ground strap to engine and to body. The latter I have seen connected from the back of the cylinder head to the firewall.

Second: If this is it, something caused it to break. Check motor mounts to make sure engine did not shift around in the evasive actions.

Fuel tank possibilities: When a car is stored long enough and under conditions that allow gasoline to evaporate from the gas tank, residue forms on the bottom of the gas tank. When fresh gas is introduced, its solvent qualites will turn the residue into goo that can clog the fuel inlet in the fuel tank. Pull the fuel sender from the tank which will allow you to check this condition. The fact that your car runs once started and underway causes me to think that this is probably not the problem.

I am gonna guess here but I say check the carb. I have had a few cars where the idle circuit was clogged just a little bit so it wouldn't idle on its own but I could keep it running if I two footed it and once it got above idle a little bit I could even drive it but once I came to a stop if I didn't feather the throttle up it would die on me. I am wondering if you possibly jarred some crap loose in the carb when you slammed on the brakes and now that is what is happening. Good luck let us know what you find Justin

hmmm well with a 4 brl it would be cause of too high float level in the rear bowl but with a slant the fuel would move away from the jets on hard stopping, but dying after that randomly would be dirt in the tank that moved into the pick out on that hard stop and or the combo of weak ign with a gas fowled #1or2 plug....

IMO clean filters, check oil level for overfilling, then pull fuel line at carb and stick the end in a clear plastic bottle and crank the motor to check for good fuel pumping.
