I am looking all over for a chart on what our gears match up to, there are all kinds of charts for 66 and later models. Does anyone have a chart? I could not find anything in the archives. It may make a good sticky for the forum if anyone has one. I have a 3.55 gear and 26.5 tall tires. My speedometer is currently 20 m.p.h too fast.
any help is appreciated.

In the 65 FSM there is a chart showing rear end gears and tire size. I would copy it but am at the Nationals right now

With apologies to the OP for a minor hijack along these same lines.

Has anyone used one of these to calculate gear tooth count?

It comes up to 41 tooth... Which based upon the follow-on charts is accurate as I've used navigation apps to track speed and compare to tach.

Seems off to me. What am I missing?

Never seen a calculator that works for Early A's. If it has a 41 tooth, definitely not for our cars.

If you don't have a technical service manual for your year you should really have one. That's probably what's missing.

Thanks for the pictures... looks like maybe a 19 or 21 tooth . Just what I needed

Yes, have the TSM. NEVER far away
But 64 only goes to show 3.31 or 3.55 axle ratio so trying to cipher an appropriate change to match things up with the 3.91 I have now.

The '65 chart above shows Grey and green for 391s. Next step higher would be Dark Blue 19 and then dark purple 18 for the 904.

Since I backed down to 3.23s and 225-60-14s I put the 18 back in. Then the pressure plate came apart, and it has sat there waiting for me to confirm it is right.

Interesting that the 64 TSM gives a shift pattern summary the Torqueflite with a 3.91 - 1 but doesn't show a 3.91 option in the pinion chart
