In 1970 I had a '63 valiant 2dr hardtop in a really funky light green and I believe it had a black vinyl roof - does anyone know if they even offered that roof back in the day or what the green color may have been called? Somebody stuffed a snow ball or two in my gas filler tube one cold January night and that was the end of that car as I recall....

cool - thanks very much. Roof may have had black paint with a rough texture to it... Body was green metallic - with slight touch of 8+ years of sun, snow, etc. Those cars had a starting/cranking sound all their own - combination of the chrysler starter and alternator I guess..

The alternator doesn't make noise when the engine is starting (unless its bearings are faulty). It's the gear-reduction starter that makes the characteristic "Highland Park Hummingbird" cranking sound.

My slant was boring. I tapped the gas once, let it go and hit the starter. caught before one revolution. Like turning on a sewing machine. This vid was without a functional fuel pump, just bowl gas, hence the short run and lean idle.
