Seen a 64-66 Barracuda rear window on eBay, the seller say's it is factory "tinted"

Weren't all the 64-66 rear windows lightly tinted from the factory? The one on my dads 66 is and does not not have A/C. Always looking to learn more about the wonderful early A-Body......thanks! :glasses7:

Glass could come clear or tinted from the factory. It would be all the glass, not some of it.

The rear window of a 64-66 is a different animal than other cars. There seems to be only one rear window, tinted about 20%!! If you put it up against the tint on the side windows, it is lighter, but not clear as non tinted windows are!

I currently have 5 extra rear windows, and a couple of complete sets of tinted side glass from a couple of factory A/C cars to compare against. I also have the one in the car, and all of the rears I have are the same!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!! Geof

I would think and put money that all rear windows are the exact same from 64 to 66 myself.

Did some research & found three 1964 sales code options for glass tint & two codes for 1965.

64
431-tinted all windows
432-tinted windshield only
433-tinted windows w/large shaded rear window
65
521-tinted all windows
522-tinted windshield only

Yep those big window (64-66)cudas all came in a tinted version no clear glass used in the rear window, you could get the rest of the car in clear but not that window. also they could(and were depending on the vendor of the flat glass) be ran in a slightly thinner version so it would not look the same as the other windows. ppg was the lightest shade of green tint, then the safeguard(guardian) brand was deeper green there were some other flat glass vendors and each shade was different due to the vendors chemicals added.
they were a pain in the butt to load onto the cooling and inspection carousel . we would get wrote up if we rotated it over our heads (due to the fact that if hot glass breaks it's supposed to be better if it's in front of you not over your head) that Sh$t hurt anywhere it hit you AND don't let that hot glass slide down your T shirt or pants,at about 200+degrees when we had to grab it and load it. I could make break dancers look clumsy! they didn't break often but when you hit the edge sharply enough they would explode. It took a lot to make them break after they cooled down a bit. we used to lay one on the rubber mats on the floor just like you would put it in the car and take turns see if we could flatten it closest to the ground by jumping on it. I've seen a 300+lb guy almost make it go flat, then it sprung him about 8-10 ft away from the glass.

that 433 was never made for the rear backlight (window). they(engineers) wanted to laminate the glass just like the front windshield and couldn't ever get the 2 pieces of thinner glass to match up so the vinyl could be put in there to create the shade. I was working at McGraw glass plant when they tried it. had my share of laugh's watching them try it. never made it to 65.
I didn't ever get to unload more than 1 or 2 pieces on the line per 8 hour shift when they tried that, man I loved those days, darnit then they started making me switch up with the furnace loaders every couple of hours. si I'd have to lead 300 or 400 pieces and then switch off and unload 0 hey still a half days work was better than loading all day. now they could and do do that type of stuff regularly.

.....still waiting for the "Desert Car Kings" to call and buy all these windows so I can retire!!! Sigh, I guess they lost my number!!!

I worked in sales at a Chrysler-Plymouth dealer when the '64 Barracuda was launched. Everyone who looked at the car asked about the big window and heat issues. The factory sales info explained the tinting that was standard, and there was no optional darker tinting available.
