'64-'66 Radiator Options - Want to go from 19" to 22"

-
This is an early one. I get what you're saying about not cutting it, but it's not like it's an original Hemi car. I seriously doubt opening the core support is gonna kill the value.
Agreed. These cars just don’t bring big $$. Build it how you want it!

Was there an OEM shroud? Can’t remember and neither of my current (235hp 273) have them, and they are original 235hp cars. If there is/was a shroud, I’d like to have it, even though I haven’t had any cooling problems.

There were shrouds for both size radiators. Front one is for a slant 19 in radiator; rear one is for a 65/66 V8 for driver’s side lower hose

Here’s where the size difference is on the passenger side

Not available in the aftermarket so used will be your best bet. Neither is cheap; however, the larger one for the V8 can be pretty expensive
Are the shrouds still available aftermarket, or it is going to be an FABO, ebay, etc. search?

A wider radiator will cool better, even with it partly blocked, especially when the car is stooped and it relies on the fan to suck air thru. Air doesn't flow straight like light beams. There will be a standoff gap between core and support panel so air can still flow to the shaded area. My 65 Dart is 273 OE with the 22 wide opening. Had to get another radiator since the one as-found had been attacked by the fan (failed water pump shaft?). I installed one for a ~1972 slant, since the oldest year Autozone had. Worst problem was little room to fit a fan, since later engine bays were slightly longer. I made it worse by installing the later alum water pump which is 1" thicker. So, couldn't use even a thin Jaguar or M-B fan-clutch and could only fit a nylon flex-fan. The alum water pump also required much fussing with pulleys and belts. So, look for a thin radiator and stick with the cast-iron water pump. I think shrouds in all models thru 1965 were metal and are very rare today since a rare option then.

So it depends. some early 64 cars had a 19 regardless if they were a /6 or V8, these cars are desirable because most all of them had the bigger "Barracuda" emblem on the side and the valiant on the right rear tail panel. These cars were only made from like April and May. Most the June, July cars had the 22 inch radiator for V8 cars (like mine built second week in July) but these cars were much like 65's Barracuda emblem and no valiant on the right rear tail panel.

If you have an early car please don't cut it up, sell it to me!!!!!
Had my share of 1964's - push button and 4 speeds.....long time since.....

I was looking for a LA904 or 727 for eventual use in my 47 Dodge. Found a 64 push button LA and fjgured why not. It’s been rebuilt by Dynamic Converters and will eventually see duty in the 47 with a push button selector somewhere in the cabin

Nice 1964 there.....luv it still retains the 64 emblems......and your build seams to be going good. Put a 340 in a 1965 with factory 350 exhaust manifolds once....wasn't fun or pretty on the left side if I remember....it - 340 - didn't stay in that car long....
