64 dart rearend question

I'm skeptic about cutting down a 8 3/4 rearend and it's expensive I don't care what company I use under there I just want something with good gears 3.10-4.10 that is pretty easy to install. I already read about the ford explorer and the 8in ford does that sound like a good idea? I'm on a budget

if I do go with an a 8 1/4 how long will it last if I put about 400 horses to it.

Long time at that power level. Not a problem at 400 hp.
