I have the 273 low compression engine in my 64 Valiant with push button automatic tranny. If I want to have a little more power and decide to go with a 340 will that bolt up to my tranny and can it take the extra power (assuming the tranny is good to begin with)? I feel the car has no get up and go. Has an 8.25 rear end and possi but it can't even spin the standard tires. Thoughts?

You'll need to have the tranny rebuild and beefed up to handle the power. That said, you'll get more out of a 360 (and be cheaper) then a 340. Try to find a late 80's early 90's 360 LA roller block (can be found in full size pickups) as your building core/block. I would have used that had I known of them and hadn't picked up my 340 block for dirt.

Get the convertor bushing from Tflite paddy, the 340 crank is bigger in the convertor snout receiver than the 273 crank.
