I've got a 273, complete and running. Was orig. a 2brl, now a 4 barrel setup.
It ran OK....a little rough though. After looking at the exhaust manifolds, the right side damper was seized fully closed. That was probably the rough running cause.

Anyone need a motor? I'm in NJ. MIKE

I am in need of alternator brackets for my 273. If you were closer I would probably buy the whole thing.

The flapper was seized on mine also. That can't happen again, I cut it out.

Is there a way to check to see if the damper is closed or open if the manifold is still on the engine? I have a 66 Dart with a 273 in it. It seems that it should run alot stronger than it does. It has a 4 barrel carb, electronic ignition, mild cam, and dual exhaust but doesn't perform how you would think it should. Maybe it is just the weak 7.25 rearend and its highway gears.

On my dart, I can hear mine clanking when I let off the gas and let the engine slow the car down. Got that mopar heat riser sound you hear on all these old cars with the original exhaust Manifolds.

I seem to recall the 70's cars had an outer flap you could use to turn the riser. I havent noticed such a thing on my dart.

So no way I've seen to verify if it is opening all the way. Just knowing that when I hear the clanking that the car is warm and the thing is moving freely as needed.

My valve was frozen shut so I cut mine out too.

1966dartdude, you should be able to turn it by hand without taking manifold off......
