Hey guys, I have looked back through some old posts and can't find any that deal directly with this issue . What is the largest size rear tire on a 15 inch rim but I can run without having to tub the wheels or have issues with rubbing ? I am currently running 14 inch 225 7014's and I want to go with the 15 inch five on 4 inch rims and want to know what size rims to get an what's the biggest tire I can run I'm looking for some height and some width. This should improve my rpm cruising speed. I was going to guess that I could run a 245 or 255 70 15 but don't know whether I should put it on 15 x7" rims were 15 x 8" rims?

Anyone that has tried it I would really appreciate some advice..,

Thx

I have run 245/60/15s on 15X7 wheels with a 4.5" backspace on a few 65 and 66 Barracudas with out any issues, 255/60/15s were just a bit to wide and would rub if the ride height was low in the rear.

Thank you, I will give those a try..did you ever try 70 series tires? (I am looking for a little more height to get some lower revs at higher speeds).

No I never tried a 70 series. I will add that on two cars that were lowered the rear end ( 8 3/4") seemed to be offset to the left side about a 1/4" and with someone in the back seat I did get a small amount of rubbing on right turns, not bad though and it didn't do it without some one in the back so with a taller tire you may get a bit. I went with a 5 speed to drop the rpms. What gears are you running in that Dana and is it stock abody width?

I run 255/60R15's on my 66 Valiant, stock 8 3/4 rear with SS MP springs, both 15x6 and 15x7's rim size work on mine

Throw a few hundred pounds in the trunk and measures how wide you can go.

Have you moved leaf springs inboard? I want to run same size tyre but think I need 3.5bs to fit with factory spring location

nice looking fish !

NOT A 65-6 , and don`t know about their wheel wells. I just yesterday put 295 60 d15 hoosier quicktimes on my 68 fastback/full 10" tread , 28 3/4'' "supposed to be 29" tall , 15x8'on weld prostars. Have plenty of room heigth wise, will need an additional 1/16" spacer on the drivers side to go with the .550 spacer that's on it .
3" studs, offset rear spring hangars, front of fender well recurved to match front of wheel house, before paint job, looks stock.
Biggest thing I can get on it w/o tubbing !! Just took 296 60 15 drag radials off-------which are for sale in tire section.

We moved the springs in 5/8” against the frame and moved the entire assembly rearward 3/4” to center the wheels in the wheel wells.

Still room to run 2-1/4” duals all the way back.

275/60/15 on a 15 x 8 with 4.5 back space.

Tight but alright.
