So I’ve had this 66 barracuda since I was 14 years old it was the first car I ever bought. I’m 36 now so I’ve had it for about 22 years. Which is crazy to think about. It’s kind of a rust bucket, but it has a lot of sentimental value so I finally have the skill set to tackle a project like this. It will probably never be a show car so I decided to just make it into a Nostalgia gasser. I bought a speedway front axle for it and right now. I’m doing all the sheet metal work on it. It’ll get frame rail connectors. I’m gonna remove the inter fender wells and take the roll cage through the firewall down onto the frame. But first things first I gotta get this thing patched so I made this thread to show the progress. I have the engine in the corner and lots of plans for the car. I have no idea what it’s gonna run. I have a 360 magnum engine. With CNC ported pro comp heads, single plane intake, and I’m gonna probably have to make headers for this thing. I’m also gonna get a custom grind hydraulic roller cam for it. I have no idea what the horsepower will be but this thing should be pretty light so feel free to guess on what you think a combo like that would run. Also, it’ll be a four speed.

Under cowl is finally finished. All Por 15 coated then rustolium black brush on top coat. Should hold up forever now. All new fabricated sheet metal welded in. I think I did pretty decent. What do you guys think? Now to sand down, prime and install the upper cowl

I’m probably going to keep the wipers, my ultimate plan for this car is to run drag week in the b gas class. It’s funny because I literally learned metal work from watching YouTube videos and just doing it myself over the years from having rusty cars as a kid. This is. My first time fabricating metal To the extent. Currently, the car is going be looking to have a 360 magnum with a 4 speed speed in it so the only other thing surgery wise is gonna have to do is install the four speed hump. I’m going to tack the pans in place and then put the transmission in.and cut the hole so I know I have it in the right spot. I really wanna get a straight pattern ramrod style shifter for it. I’ll be honest I really don’t know anything about four speeds. Everything I’ve ever owned has either had a 904 or 727 in it. I’ve heard that these early bodies have shorter rods? Is there anything I should know about the four speed application for this car that I’m unaware of? Also, if anybody spots a straight pattern shifter for sale, let me know.

re the 4 speed hump, lay it on the tunnel and 'wiggle it around and it'll find it's place, seriously it's shaped the same as the section of tunnel it needs to fit to. also a top tip is fit the hump with bolts and nutserts. it's soooo much easier to set up the shifter and rods with the hump out of the way and bolt it on afterwards.
it's what i did when i fitted a 4 speed to my 68 valiant.
neil.

That’s a really good idea. Those nut shirts kind of go in like a rivet gun or something right? Where did you buy yours at?

ebay. it's not like it'll get daily use so an expensive 'professional' one isn't needed. do try to get a set where the inserts are 'splined/knurled/ribbed' on their outside as these grip the hole in the panel better.

ps they're called nutserts or rivnuts depending on the brand.

it's not a world beater, but i'd scoop this cam for the project

price is right and it'd be fun with the 4spd

ask and ye shall receive:

perfect for a gasser and problem solved linkage wise.

if you're setting it up with a factory trans and hump, then you need the early rods with the early trans to make everything fit correctly. but given the direction you're taking and the skill you have in the fab department, i'd pass on a factory hump and run that bad boy and just fab up a cover for it that is removable and secured with rivnuts.
