66 dart -- filler tank vent tube

so dropped the tank on my 66 dart and its not clear to me how/where the vent tube for the filler neck attaches to the tank. i think the previous owner had it jammed into the filler neck grommet, but that doesn't look or sound right.

any ideas? thanks,

Yep the vent tube is connected via rubber hose to the filler tube and vented to the outside world
