My 66 Dart 270 Slant 6 non/ac had a single sliding lever for heat. Top lever is Heat/Defrost Bottom is Temp/Warm. I purchased a stock 2 lever model and notices it has 3 cables and the heater has vacuum diaphragms. Can I take off the Diaphragms and just have the cable regulated controls? I don't know if this dart had push button controls or not.

I was confused. I have owned my 66 for 15 years now but I have never taken the heater controls out. I would imagine ac/heater box has vacuum diagrams. The heat only box is all cable operated.

The heat only box is all cable operated.

I'm not sure if a Dart and a Valiant are the same or not, I have a 66 Valiant with a slant and heat only. I've had the heater control unit out, it is cables only. If yours is similar to mine, be careful when you take the bezel off and give it a shot of lube before breaking the nuts loose. The posts that go through the dash are plastic, I snapped one off because I thought it was metal and the nut was frozen on.
