Looks like I need to reinforce my 66 Barracuda as the rust infiltrated between the plates in the box. The two spot welds of the angle brace to the driver frame rail section are swelled pretty good from moisture intrusion (see arrows).
I will clean it up as much as I can with a carbide burr on a die grinder, and then weld a patch piece over it. There just is not much room in there to work, which is kinda the issue as moisture found it a nice place to hang out. :-( I suspect the repair won't be as strong as "factory fresh", so the thought of torque boxes came to mind.
There were no factory ones for that year for the Barracuda. Did they make them (torque boxes) for the convertible Valiant or either flavor of the Dart? You CAN find ones for the 67 Barracuda. Anyone done that? If so is the geometry similar or does it take a good bit of fabricobbling to make it work?
