67 340 block

as far as I know 67 340's were racing blocks for can am they are rare and costly,although they arent much diffrent then later 340's the cast date makes them more expensive,I'm looking for the pic's of the one I posted a while back, not sure if it is for sale or not.
 
Oh boy that took some diggin to find these pic's wrong date but It's the only one I have ever seen and still not sure if the guy will sell it.

Let me throw a wrench in the fan.... A have a 67 Date 340 in my 70 Duster.... What did it come out of ???? A 1968 Barracuda.... What are you calling a Can Am Car ???? Dang if my 67 is worth that much I would let it go... Only if I had another to put in its place...
 
The model year for 68s started in 67 (just like every year the new models hit the show room in something like September).

For example…. My 1968 Barracuda 340-S has a build date of October 1967. So a 340 block with a 67 casting year is nothing unusual.

The casting date of the block above would be normal for an early 68 Barracuda or Dart.

exactly right, Any 68 dart/barracuda built June through december of 1967 would have a block dated 67. I have two 6-67 blocks that I found over the years but have never came across an 11-67 one yet. Figured I'd give everyone here a yell and see if anyone has one or might know where one is, Dan.

my build date is 11-17-67, out of Michigan, I know I could probably use one of the ones i have that are dated 6-67 but being the freak about these things that I am I really would like to find one exact for the car, Dan.
 
With an 11-17 build date you could open up your options a bit and include 10-67 or even 9-67.

68s were vin stamped anyway so one in the cars build window is as close as you can get.
 
dan u probably could use a 6-67 and be correct my 69 swinger has a #'s matching 340 and they used a 6-67 block its vin stamped and everything.....superdart340
 
I would think any 67 block cast before 11-67 could be correct for your. Mopar didn't cast just a few blocks at a time. They whould run batches by the 100. I had a 11-71 Date cast 340 but was built and correct on 2-13-73! Since 68 was the first model year for the 340, any 67 block cast before 11-67 would be correct for your car. I would almost gaurantee it didn't have a 11-67 casting the day it was built.
 
Thanks guys, all good information. Then if I use this block I have for restoring my car should I be concerned about the 10,000 day stamping on the front? do they look that close at that or that really doesn't matter? I have two 67 blocks and there both cast at about the same time. Thanks, Dan.

What date was it built ? Or post the numbers and I'll figure it out.
 
I've got an early one too, June 22, 1967, but I'm busy racing it and beating the heck out of it, lol....so I don't want to give it up. :toothy10:

I did have one guy at Milan Dragway get mad at me for racing it. gah!

First block
D=1968
W-windsor canada
340 =CID
2365= 201 day of 1968 or July-19-1968 (this is the build date)
0196= 196 engine produced that day

Second block
D=1968
W=windsor Canada
2384= 220 day of 1968 or August-8-1968 (this is the build date)
0410= 410 engine produced that date



So as you can see the actual build dates are 13 months and 14 months after the date the block was cast!
