Gentlemen,
I am looking at purchasing a drivetrain that is supposed to be originally from a 67 383 S 4spd Barracuda, but Im having some issues perhaps you can help me with. First of all the stamp on the engine says A383, followed underneath by 6 2. The intake is 2205968, heads 516's, Carb 4298, block 2468130. I cannot find any stamped numbers on the transmission, there is no pad on the passenger side like I'm used to seeing. The casting#'s for trans are; C98561H on the main body (may be 67H), C96708H on tail housing, C95664 W on cover. The guy claims it came out of his formula S car he bought in the early 1970s, but the numbers don't seem to jive. Any help is appreciated. Thank You

the 67 four speed should not have the number pad on the side so that is a good sign ...you know its a pre-68 trans .....but very important is to check if its 30 spline on the output shaft meaning it should take the larger 727 type slip yoke if it is an original trans that was behind a Big block......

also big block engines specific to A-bodies should hade the motor mount tabs farther foward ....you should be able to see on the driver side visually if the mounting tabs are farther foward than a regular chrysler 383.

I'm no help with the numbers. I know the Factory 68 383S car I did, the driver side motor mount bolted to a boss on the front of the block. It's my understanding that all 383 have this boss but I think just the A body blocks were drilled and tapped.

Thanks guys. Any idea of the engine? I always thought an A383 stamp on the block pad meant 1965. Is the 6 2 the date? I also see HP at bottom of vin pad.

I always though that the block should say c383 to be 1967 and the heads should be the hi po 915 for that motor for 67. Also as some have said before the bosses should be drilled out for the motor mount if it infact was in a 67 h code Cuda. Please chime in with your opinions.

what is the casting date on the block? that will put you right into the reality of what year the block is.

The intake is 2205968 = 1965 B or C body 383 1-4bbl.
Carb 4298 = '67 383 manual trans...any body style.
block 2468130 = 1959-71 383
heads 2406516's = 1964-67 361/383/413/426 - 2.08/1.60 valves, closed chambers

Hope this helps.....
