67-9 2dr sedan door striker repair

I have a 67 valiant & due to both doors having bad hinges for a long time it has cracked the sheet metal around the striker. I see they sell the panels for ht but haven't seen anything for sedans. What is the best cost effective way to repair this? I already have new door hinges (not installed yet) and would like to address this issue before I have the jambs painted. I am assuming the metal is too thin to weld & grind on. Thanks in advance & pics are helpful.

I dont know much about metal repair but what about going in behind the striker and beefing it up?From the pics it doesn't look to bad.

1 has multiple cracks & the other seems to be cracking in a circle around the striker & I'm sure it a matter of time before it cracks off. The striker needs to be able to move around when adjusting the doors & I think any welds may get in the way of that.

Its not that bad of a job, the metal isn't too thin to weld/grind

You are lucky. The previous owner of my '68 welded the post to the jamb! I've got to grind away the circumferential welds and put in a replacement kit.

I have sections here from a solid car I cut out. If you go that route. Mike.

My car is a 71 and had the same problem. With sagging doors and thin metal round the striker it's gonna happen. I had a 73 parts car and the jambs were perfect. They had about a 4" sq 1/4 backing plate. So I drilled out the striker and added it to the 71. Hope this gives you an idea. So parts car or a kit, it's your choice. Hope this helps.

this is what i did to reinforce my 69. I copied what Chrysler did on later a bodies.I cut a plate out 11 or 12 gauge steel big enough to weld the nut carrier to .then plug welded the whole unit to the back side of the door pillar.
