Hey Guy's....Anyone know how to remove the inner gear selector cable from the gear selector arm/handle on a console shifter in our 67 Dart GT? Would like to re-chrome said part but need to remove the cable & plastic bushing to do so, I have piece in hand & can't seem to figure it out. Thanks, Dan.

If you have the knob off the top you can take the cotter pin out of the bottom (be careful to catch the spring) and then the cable and inner plastic tube should come out the bottom. The top bushing is short and will come right out of the top . The cable ends do have provisions on the ends to use a wrench but most times it is difficult to unscrew the cable without untwisting it until it is apart i believe they may have used lock tight on them from the factory

It must be cobbled up from another year car, as 1967 A Bodies used rods, and bell cranks to connect shifter to transmission. A photo would help.

Thanks for the reply....I have it apart, Knob, spring etc, but doesn't want to slide out the bottom, but does move freely.....guess I'll play with it a little more. Thanks, dan.

Those plastic bushings will come out. You may need to rotate them a bit while pulling.

That is typical even though the cable moves it won't come apart is because the inner plastic tube which runs almost the full length of the handle binds inside and a bit of corrosion or even dirt sometimes on the end will keep it from coming out. I have some here i have been soaking for months and they still won't come out. The top bushing has nothing to do with the cable not coming out. I hope you get it and be careful not to ruin the cable because there are a few different lengths and i don't know of anyone making a replacement repo and NOS are hard to find and expensive usually when you do

I don't see any cables on that page only shifters?

He was only asking how to get his handle apart and maybe needing another cable at most. Heck if he needs another handle or complete shifter i have some nice used ones here for less than half of that price and i am sure quite a few other members here do as well
