I am a new member to the site and I recently purchased a numbers matching 1967 Dart GTS 383, March 3/67 Production #332 on the registry. I have not had the car delivered yet and am chomping at the bit doing as much research as I can on it. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on the cylinder head casting that came on the engine? The last owner did not rebuild the engine and does not know the casting number? I have found the 67 383 used the 915 casting with the 1.60 exhaust valves but I heard some may have come with the 906 casting/1.74 valves. The research says there is only a 2.3% flow difference between the heads but the 915 are closed chamber which should bump the comp a bit. Of course when I get the car here in a few weeks I will be pulling the valve covers and checking myself. The engine was rebuilt to factory specs with an EB performer rpm manifold,750 demon carb, tti headers and the magnum comp reproduction cam with 110 lobe separation. HP numbers with this combo should be in the 365hp/430ftlb I would think. With the heads shaved .020 and trw flat top pistons. Any opinions of hp and tq numbers would be great.

JJ USE,

On the 1967 Dodge Dart GTS 383 and 1967 Plymouth Barracuda 383 'Formula S'.

The Valves were {2.08" Intake} and {1.60" Exhaust}.

'No' 1967 383 ever came thru with the #906 Cylinder Heads, only #2780915-1 'Closed Chamber design'
with 1.60" Exhaust Valves.

I've had several sets of Cylinder Heads off of the 1967 383's, and never saw a set
other than with 2.08" Intake and 1.60" Exhaust with the Single-Coil Valve Springs.

Again, the 1967 Cylinder Heads did have a Closed-Chamber design.

That's what I thought. Thanks! Any opinions of HP and tq numbers with this combo?

I have owned 3-67 Dart GTS's so I can talk about them. All came with the "516" closed chamber small valve heads and short runner intake with 580 CFM carb. Adding the 915's and a later intake or aluminum intake with a larger carb definitely woke one of them up! Best I ever did with the stock combo (4-speed car) was 15.50 at 90 MPH but when I put on the 915's, stock 68 301 intake, and 650 Carter it immediately went 14.91 at 102 MPH but the tires limited the traction. I never did much more with the combo but seat of the pants feel was MUCH better!

Nice car! I saw that one for sale out east...it looks like the same car?
Good luck with it...It's a beauty!!
My 67 383 S Barracuda Auto. Has the same engine, 516 heads ETC. Its easy to "sneak" some HP parts in there. the heads all look the same and an old style alum intake..paint it up engine color..and your off! But your car is so sweet..dunno if I would touch it, just enjoy :0

I never trust someone else's work. I like to go through them myself. I have found things that weren't done right by others that may not know any better....
