I guess it is supposed to be plastic, but where do you find one? The rest of the molding is in great shape. suggestions please.
 
67 had a plastic lockstrip. 68 is stainless steel trim all around. Same as can be found on dart, valiant, and scamps...
 
Does it have a function? Is it shiny? The PO screwed a piece of plastic into its place. Looks like ****
 
It is supposed to be shiny but even the replacements start to shrink and peel after a few years
 
It's vinyl so the sun can eat it up over time. Most of these cars are well kept today so a good reproduction piece, even without UV protection incorporated, should last a very long time.
As for its function.. It serves as a lock insert for the rubber gasket preventing water leaks. If you did replace it with stainless reveal molding from a hard top for the aesthetics you should put something in the gasket but there again, they don't normally sit out in the weather today.
