We are in the process of doing the underbody of our 68 fastback. Upon removal of the gas tank I noticed a piece of thick tar paper in between the tank and under body. It is not in the best shape and wondered where I can get another piece or is it not needed, or is there something else I could use? Also upon removal of the 7 inch rearend I noticed a piece of rubber in between the top of the spring and the top plate. Is this needed? is this stock and whats it for? Can I just cut an inner tube to replace this on the 8 3/4? any help would be appreciated. TeamGlynn

Yearone has the tank protector and they also have the kit to rebuild the springs. It should be plastic rather than rubber but who knows. Factory used what they had. If you can ebay you may be able to find them cheaper.

I've used a piece of roofing felt (tar paper) as a replacement with good luck. I've taken some cars apart where there were remains of cardboard used for the same purpose but they didn't hold up too well.
