I was very luck to find a NOS 518 MP HP transmission & converter for $1,300.00 localy. I'm told I have to cut part of the cross member out of the body and modify the transmission mount. Question is. How much and where? I was also told to frim off the manufacturing cast ears from the transmission as well. My understanding is it is a tight fit. Any picture would be greatly appreciated.

Also where can I buy the forward drive shaft yoke that slides into the rear of the transmission. Is there different splines? Now the part where I hang my head in shame I went with a FORD 9"rear for practical and economice reasons only. May WP forgive me! So I need a blue ovel yoke as well.

Thank you all in advance

I am putting a a-500 (same dimensions as the 518) in my Dart and you will have to cut that support and the trans tunnel. I cut the support out and it wasn't enough to get the engine level.

YIKES! I really did no want or expect having to cut the floor. It loos like the support hasd 4 spot welds at the top attaching it to the floor. That's all I can "spot" so far. Did you have to modify the transmission case?
Cheers & thanks for the pic, very helpful

If you search similar threads here you should find some very nice pics of the hand made cross member with trans support , sheet metal fillers where the tunnel is expanded, and more.

That's right. There are several threads on this subject. Use the search function and you'll find a lot of info.

I tried searching using several search word combinations. It's kind of hit & miss. The thread may not mention what I'm looking for but, I always find a peice of the puzzel. Can you suggest a thread spacific you might know of. Thank you all

My car is cut up to put a gm4l80e in it, which is slightly bigger than the 518, I think. The tunnel had to be opened up alot, enough to have to bend the gas pedal around it. My car will still have torsion bars on it so the fab guy traingulated what was left of the torsion bar crossmember back into the sub-frame connectors. If you would like I can get a few pictures after I get it off the trailer......

Sorry but I don't know of a specific thread. I just remember seeing several on the subject over the past few yrs. You might also try searching 46rh as that is another name for the A518. You might also try A518 if you haven't already.
