7 1/4 rear end tag

I have a 65 Barracuda with the 7 1/4 rear end in it. Originally a 2 barrel car it now has a built 273 Commando in it. It’s a factory 4 speed car.

The rear end tag is present attached by one of the top bolts, but there is no ratio stamped on the tag.

However there is a single perfectly round punch out hole in the center of the tag. Does anyone know if / what this punch hole signifies?

It has to be there for a reason.

I tried to get a photo, was underneath the car (not on a lift). Too tricky and couldn’t get the right photo angle and light. I will have the car on a lift next week and will get a pic and post it.

Is the tag round or rectangular

If it looks like this But no number

, maybe the ratio was changed and the round hole was to obliterate the original gear ratio.

Ya I'm not buying it either

The tag is rectangular, a bit longer that the one in your photo. The second punch hole is where the ratio is stamped but not big enough to obliterate it.

I’ll have it on a lift next week and try to remember a tag pic to post here.
