7.25 to 8.75 swap questions

Hopefully this spring/summer I can get the 8.75 assembly installed ( once all the winter crap gets out of the way so I can actually see the Dart and get to it ).

I understand the driveshaft needs shortened 2.25 inches ( and balanced).

I don't imagine the U-Joint yokes are the same size but know U-Joints for two different sized yokes used to be available.

Are those U-Joints still out there and is that a viable or advisable way to go or should I have the driveshaft reworked to accept the larger yoke ?

When I swapped in my 8 3/4 the U-joint was the same size as the one behind my '64 273 2bbl 4 speed. The rear I used came from a 340 Demon. I later swapped in a 741 3.91 Sure-Grip center section & it also used the small U-joint. If you need it I think the conversion U-joints are available & are supposed to be easy to find. Don't think you'll need anything larger behind a 273. Mine held up through a lot of abuse.
 
Roger,when I swapped to a 360/904/8 3/4 in my 66 Dart I used a driveshaft from a 73 Dart 318/904(no cutting)I just swapped to the conversion U-joint 7260/7290 and bolted her all together..Ezzie peezie LOL.I,m now racing it with a 500hp 410/904 and the same 8 3/4 but with spool and axels.

The 7260 series is considered the "small" Mopar u-joint and the 7290 is considered the "large" Mopar u-joint. The "small" 7260 series fits a yoke that has an inside span of 2.125" . The "large" 7290 series fits a yoke with an inside span of 2.625". If you end up with a rear axle with the large yoke you can use one of the following u-joints to adapt your smaller drive shaft to the large yoke.
